Two Eco-friendly International Corporations Form Alliance of Leak & Drainage Services & Solutions

Palm Springs, California (October 19, 2007) - American Leak Detection (ALD), the leading brand in non-invasive leak detection services, and Environmental Biotech International (EBI), a United Kingdom and United States headquartered leader in sewer, grease and odor solutions, are pleased to announce the first stage of a comprehensive long-term business alliance. Their joint vision will build a “one-stop-shop” for environmentally friendly products and services related to water management, water conservation and water recycling.
“The strategic opportunity is to enable our company-owned locations and 120 franchisees around the world to sell to our millions of customers not only non-invasive leak detection services but also a broad range of non-invasive solutions for difficult collateral problems stemming from decaying residential and commercial water and sewer infrastructure,” says Stan Berenbaum, President and CEO of American Leak Detection.
Environmental Biotech has a range of environmentally friendly products and services that eliminate fats from drains and solve other wastewater and odor problems. Many of its products and services are based on microbes that eat noxious substances, typically leaving behind nothing more than carbon dioxide and water. The process is called bio remediation and it is both more environmentally friendly than conventional solutions (harsh chemicals and drain company call-outs) and more cost effective too - so much so that companies such as McDonald’s are now regular users.
“When we started exploring the alliance, I immediately thought of the revolution that has already occurred in deploying environmentally-friendly bacteria to break-up oil slicks in the oceans,” noted Dr. Patrick DeSouza, CEO of Plain Sight Systems, an ALD technology and equity partner based at Yale University.
“Non-invasive scientific solutions in support of the world-wide green movement are valued by the marketplace at a premium,” DeSouza says. “And our Yale-trained technologists are fully committed to supporting the ALD and EBI product roadmap, especially in engineering a pro-active monitoring approach with the use of smart sensors.”
Under the terms of the alliance, ALD will operate EBI locations in the U.S. and ALD’s nationwide franchise network will be the primary point of distribution for EBI products. In turn, EBI will open ALD franchise locations throughout the United Kingdom. Aziz Tejpar, President of EBI, will lead the international expansion of both companies, capitalizing on his twenty years of experience in international business development and franchising. He says: “With the two businesses combined, there is a much better franchise proposition than either on its own because there is more in the portfolio and the offerings fit together naturally under the infrastructure and environmental banner.”
“We look forward to providing business leadership around the world, especially in developing countries where water management issues abound and a burgeoning middle class is demanding environmental leadership,” adds Tejpar. “One unfortunate by-product of food processing is the reality that waste composites corrode pipes and sewer lines. It really is the equivalent of heart disease for our collective infrastructure body.”
Tejpar further explains that beyond clogs, these byproducts also produce landfill problems in disposal. EBI’s naturally grown, biotech products address both dimensions in remediating the clogs into non-potable water that can then be recycled into useable water and even biofuels.
“We are delighted that the army of American Leak Detection service professionals can extend our product distribution throughout the United States and create a recurring maintenance solution to keep the pipes healthy,” says Tejpar.
The companies envision additional phases resulting from their relationship. Beyond creating a premium service for customers, they will both be working with Plain Sight Systems and Yale scientists to help shape the regulatory and policy environment to promote non-invasive and environmentally-friendly solutions. Dr. James Boyle, an advisor to this evolving environmental platform and a director of the Yale Office of Cooperative Research noted that “water management is a critical problem for our collective future and we are all challenged to find non-invasive technology solutions.”
ALD and EBI anticipate a variety of updates as their alliance grows, including a plan to work together in building a brand under the logo and concept of “B Environmental.” The B Environmental program focuses on cleanliness, hygiene, and odor control and takes us from reactive to proactive by proposing a multitude of solutions for residential, commercial and municipal markets - from retail in-home products to on-going maintenance solutions for commercial businesses and municipalities.
